19 Jul Side Effects Commonly Associated with CBD Oil Consumption
CBD Oil is often widely touted for a great number of health issues, and as a matter of fact, it is now considered to be a bit of a panacea for many if not most ailments under the sun. Ranging from cancer all the way to convulsions (with addiction thrown in for good measure). However, some of the very strongest scientific evidence regarding the efficacy of this drug is in the treatment of childhood epilepsy syndromes. Especially those cruel disorders that do not normally respond to conventional anti-seizure medication. This includes terrible conditions such as the Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) the even more dreaded and terrible Dravet syndrome.
In many studies, while CBD was certainly able to reduce the sheer volume and number of seizures, and in certain very rare cases, it was actually able to stop them once and for all.
However, this certainly does not mean that CBD oil is completely devoid of any kind of side effects, whatsoever. As a matter of fact, there does exist a wide body of research that clearly indicates that the unrestrained use of even one hundred percent all natural CBD oil just might trigger a very large number of unanticipated side effects, many of which include the following ones:
- Changes (including both increase and decrease) in appetite
- Unexplained changes in mood
- Dry mouth
These are only a few side effects. However, apart from these, there is also a lot of concern amongst medical health professionals that the unchecked use of CBD oil can also potentially lead to very high levels of liver enzymes and these are a known marker of irreparable liver damage or even inflammation.
Various Safety and Security Concerns
It is a very well-known fact that CBD oil has the potential to interact with various medications, and these can also include various types of anti-epilepsy drugs. Since it is also used to treat this condition, it can actually mar the efficacy of conventional medications instead of increasing them.
Not Suitable for Pregnant or Nursing Moms
It is not recommended for use amongst pregnant and lactating mothers. In fact, a report by the American Academy of Pediatrics or AAP has now been published in the Pediatrics journal. It urges all pregnant women and their lactating counterparts to avoid any and all forms of Cannabis use due to any sort of adverse effects on their babies.
According to a study that was mentioned in this report, even very short-term exposure to something as seemingly innocuous as CBD Oil derived from industrial hemp was also found to substantially increase the overall permeability of the placenta itself. In fact, the loss of this placental barrier can potentially place the little fetus at direct risk from certain highly noxious substances, especially since the fetus’s auto immune system would not be developed enough to fight them.
CCD use amongst young seizure patients has also led to digestive disorders and severe irritability as well. And because CBD oil products are not considered dangerous, to begin with, therefore their sale is largely unregulated. Which also means that there is no actual guarantee that the pill or supplement you are taking even contains a safe or for that matter, the effective level of CBD. In fact, there is no way to find out without stringent lab checks.
There was a study published in a known research publication known as the ‘Journal of the American Medical Association’ around two years ago. It had concluded that almost 70 percent of the CBD oil based products that were sold online had been incorrectly labeled and, in some cases, they were outright placebos. The ‘benefits’ associated with them, therefore, were a direct result of the ‘placebo’ effect.
On the other hand, some of them had very high quantities of CBD oil. Some CBD oils may also contain incorrectly labeled amounts of THC and other euphoria inducing compounds.
CBD also has the potential to thin your blood as well. This is why you have to be very careful when you are already taking blood thinning medication. Another really significant safety concern about CBD is that the drug is basically primarily marketed and sold as a supplement and not a medication.
As of today, the FDA (Food and drug Authority) does not yet regulate the purity or for that matter, even the safety of the dietary supplements that are available in the market. This is why there is no real or actual way of knowing that the product that you are actually buying has any of the active ingredients that are clearly mentioned on the label. In addition to this, there is also no way of ascertaining that the product you purchase might also contain other elements of which you have no awareness since they are not mentioned on the label of the container.
Finally, there is also no way of knowing what constitutes the precise dosage that can be considered to be the most highly effective dosage of any sort of medical condition, whatsoever.
In light of the above, it is always considered to be safe than sorry and to use CBD oil with a mixture of pragmatism and hope and as per the advice of your physician.
